Long Beach needs a nice theater; People still go to the movies

I keep hearing the argument “with netflix and downloads, nobody goes to theaters anymore.”  Didn’t they say the same thing back when the television was invented?

Just looking at the All-Time USA Box Office (as of May 6th, 2011 / and money has been adjusted), five of the top twenty grossing films came out since 2008!  Going back five years to 2006, that number grows to seven of the top twenty. In fact, a staggering fourteen out of the top grossing twenty movies in the USA came out after the year 2000. When did DVD plays come out? 1997 or 1998? I guess DVD sales didn’t make much of a dent either.

This proves that people are still going to theaters. Of course, we want nice theaters with comfortable seats, good movies, fair prices and yummy snacks.

So that is my arguement on why Long Beach needs a nice theater. People like to get out of their houses. Teens like to go there on dates! Heck, adults like to go to movies on dates. And kids like to see anything that has a talking animal. Yes it’s true, People still go to the movies.

  1. “..with netflix and downloads, nobody goes to theaters anymore.”

What about the newly released films? They aren’t on Netflix until they are out in DVD. Don’t people want to see their most anticipated films on the big screen with great surround-sound and picture quality(something our theater lacks, though)?

Long Beach does need a theater, for everyone.
