Report: A body part was found on the beach & NY Ave. (updated)

UPDATE (Sept 28th @ 7pm): The Long Beach Herald is now running a story on the missing foot/body. They don’t have any new information, but at least the story is out there. LB Herald – Police search for reported missing limb in Long Beach

UPDATE (Sept 28th): No Real updates on this. LBChica writes that she meant to say it was two feet and they think a body was connected to it.   Shaun acknowledges that he knows the surfers who found the body/feet. LBFD were on the scene, along with a bunch of helicopters – which were reported by multiple people. I will update as soon as I find out more.

UPDATE (10am): Posted below by LBChica: 2 surfers very close to me were out surfing on Delaware yesterday. They found a foot bobbing in the ocean. They contacted authorities who then came to the scene. The 2 surfers are not sure if it was just a foot or an actual body, but for the time they were on the beach (from 7-9) the body or body part did not wash ashore. The helicopters were part of the search. I believe they will be conducting a search today, as it was too dark last night.

——

We just got an unconfirmed report that a body part, possibly a hand or a foot was found washed ashore between New York Avenue & Vermont Street around 5pm Monday. We have no other info. That must explain all the helicopter noises that a few of you emailed me about.

Can anybody confirm or add to this story?

Thanks for the Info Josh & Liz.

  1. 2 surfers very close to me were out surfing on Delaware yesterday. They found a foot bobbing in the ocean. They contacted authorities who then came to the scene. The 2 surfers are not sure if it was just a foot or an actual body, but for the time they were on the beach (from 7-9) the body or body part did not wash ashore. 2. This is unrelated, but does anyone know what the deal is with the bulldozers on the beach? I’m on Franklin and these extremely LOUD (I’m on the 7th floor and my entire apartment shakes) bulldozers have been shifting sand around for the last 2 weeks. It doesn’t appear that they have any reason for doing this. Anyone know what’s going on?

  3. It’s all part of their work in fixing the Irene damage. They’ve got to move a ton (literally) of sand around to start filling under the boardwalk and then re-level the sand across the beach so regular storms and high tides don’t drown the beach. I’ll shoot something over to public works and see if they want to chat.

I know its an inconvenience, but its either that or ocean in the street during the next big storm.

  4. CORRECTION: Sorry, I wrote that story way too early in the morning- didn’t even have my coffee yet at that point. In the story, I said that they saw a foot- but I meant to say that they saw two feet- The feet were protruding from the water, and the surfers believe that the feet were attached to a body.

  5. Yes it is a true and confirmed story. And it only involved the 2 surfers and the detectives who responded. I don’t think there is anything really to report yet, as I don’t believe the body has washed up or been recovered as of yet.

  6. Yea – its true that the two dudes reported it, and I know them so it’s not like they made it up. I also saw the LBFD response last night! No news though that they recovered anything.
