Amy Mahoney of Peaceful Minds is organizing an amazing event, to be held on the boardwalk this Saturday at 10AM.
Below follows information I’ve received about their event:
On October 29, 2011 various members of our Armed Service will be doing a 10 Mile March on the Long Beach Boardwalk to benefit Peaceful Minds. Peaceful Minds is a fiscally sponsored project with FJC, a 501©3 public foundation based in New York City.
Peaceful Minds is a Wellness Center for Combat Veterans who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. The veterans who are eligible are “silently wounded” and may be suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury, Anxiety, Depression, Headaches, Insomnia, and Pain. They are treated in this wellness center free of charge, with acupuncture, reiki, massage therapy, meditation, and yoga.
Here is the link to some of our soldiers testimonials
The suicide rates among this population of veterans is alarming, far more soldiers are dying from suicide than in combat. This is truly a sad and scary epidemic, by implementing and offering programs such as acupuncture this will help to prevent these tragic events.
If you would like to participate in this event, you may Run or Walk 5 miles that day for a $20 registration fee. If you would simply like to “Sponsor a Soldier”, you may sponsor in increments of $10 per mile.
Amy has already confirmed there will be more than 20 troops in uniform marching laps on the boardwalk to hit their planned 10 miles. Everyone that has deployed bares some of these psychological scars and events like these help break the stigma that is connected to post traumatic stress disorder and other ailments that these brave men and women may endure.
This is both a fun run and a walk, or an event you can simply watch to participate in; there’s something for everyone. For more info you can check out Peaceful Minds’ website, take a look at the Facebook page that has also been started, or just come out this Saturday to Riverside Blvd.
