Get yer Hot Dogs! Get yer Hot Dogs Here!

Hey we’re going to get Hottie Dogs! Wieners, dirty waters, frankfurters, pig guts in tubing. Whatever you want to call them they’re coming to the West End! At least that’s what is on the agenda for our First City Council meeting of 2012. There are, of course, other agenda items frankly (get it!) reading thirteen pages of WHEREAS is too confusing on such a blustery day. It does make interesting reading and part of the transparency promise a go. Not that the former Council did not post the City Council agenda but now we get to see Additional Documents. Follow the clicks to City Council Agenda

I for one am intrigued.

WHEREAS, there has been presented to this Council an application pursuant to Section 9-112(18)(c) of Appendix A (Zoning Law) of the Long Beach Code of Ordinances, for waiver of off-street parking requirements for the premises located at 951A West Beech Street (street floor), Long Beach, New York (Section 59, Block 231, Lot 26) between Tennessee Avenue and New Hampshire Street, having frontage of less than 20 feet, on behalf of the owner Artie Salamone, 1031 West Park Avenue, Long Beach, New York 11561 to be used as a Snack Shop / Hot Dog Shop.

So, Tuesday night January 17th at 7 p.m. bring your voices to let the 2012 Good and Welfare City Council meeting and let them know what you think about hot dogs at 3 a.m. on a Saturday night and other important agenda items.

  1. “snack shop” is too vague for me. I will be interested in knowing if it is primarily dogs or going to look more like a beach snack shack. WILL IT BE A LATE NIGHT BUSINESS?! If so, it’ll be a goldmine in the summer. IS this going to be a shitty boiled hot dogs passed as gourmet like Sugo tried serving for way too much money? Can I get a tofu dog? Gluten-free bun, perhaps? I do hope this owner provides more than just yellow mustard – I like a dijon with chopped onions….and if you can’t toast my buns then I’m not going to like you. Also, offer tater tots as the West End is clearly lacking in that potato formation.

With all of the hoopla against Dunkin’ Donuts for taking away business from the overpriced-diarrhea-invoking products of 24 hour Bagel / Bally’s, will this one pass the neighborhoods test? What direction will that weiner Hoffman at WENCA flip to?

If they are waiving off-street parking, does the owner suspect that customers will primarily be local and if so will he provide a place for bike parking?

  2. looks like “A Public Hearing will be held at City Hall, 1 West Chester Street, Long Beach, New
    York, on February 7, 2012 at 7:00 p.m.”
