The Inaugural Long Beach Recreation Department Beach Tennis program is underway. The program started on a fun note this past Friday on the fields at the Rec Center as the children learned the basics.
The program, jointly sponsored by the City of Long Beach and BeachTennis USA, teaches kids how to play this exciting new sport that combines tennis with volleyball and can be played on the beach, obviously a bonus for youngsters from Long Beach.
“We are very happy that our beach tennis clinics have been so well attended to date. More important are the smiles on the kids faces when they play the game. We see this program growing very rapidly because beach tennis will be omnipresent in our City — in the schools for physical education, at the Parks and Recreation Department, on the beach at Grand, Riverside and Pacific Boulevards” said Jim Lorenzo, President of Beach Tennis USA and Long Beach resident.
Beach Tennis will meet on Fridays at 5pm until the weather gets a little warmer and then it will move to the beach. It is not too late to sign up and come to the next meeting which is Friday, April 27, 2012 at 5pm on the Recreation ball fields.
