Long Beach, NY (April 20, 2012) –
The City of Long Beach welcomes back the Farmer’s Market at Kennedy Plaza on Wednesday May 2, 2012 from 10:00 AM through 6:00 PM and Saturday May 5, 2012 from 9:00 AM through 2:00 PM. Regional producers will be offering fresh products including vegetables, herbs, fruits, baked goods, a variety of fish and shellfish, eggs, cheeses, mushrooms, pasta, pickles, fair trade coffee, gluten free products, handcrafted soaps, and much more.
“I am very proud of the Kennedy Plaza Farmers Market and how it has grown and flourished under the guidance of Long Beach based Friends & Farmers Inc.” said Nassau County Legislator Denise Ford
“We are offering a greater variety of products grown right here on Long Island this season with the addition of: Satur Farms, Cutchogue, Briermere Farms – Riverhead, and Goodale Dairy Farms – Manorville. Suffolk County is the largest producer of Agricultural products in NY State, and lucky for us, they are right next door,” Bernadette Martin, Director Friends & Farmers Inc.
Students from the NIKE Alternative High School will also be growing products right here in town for sale at the market and for the local soup kitchen, The Food & Friendship Inn. Some students will be taking on a larger role in managing the Farmer’s Market as part of an internship program.
