See, I told you so! (Don Juan, Gentle Coffee Brew)

I know, I talked about all this before, but finally a few signs pop up on some windows and it makes me feel like I’m not crazy. Just don’t look for any Peter Lugar signs anytime soon…

  1. Coffee wars are coming to Long Beach. My money is on The Coffe Nut Cafe. You can’t beat their assortment of over two dozen types of coffee beans.. According to PJ, open mic nights nights for June will feature.. The Tony Chandler Shark Bites, The Boy Toys and Cindy and The Bear. Rumor has it that there is bad blood between The Nut and the new people and they are preparing for an all out war including a new line of baked goods from the heart of Hipster-land .

  2. Brands Deli opens Thursday. Looks great inside, they left the door oopen yesterday and i walked in. Looks like the old Zamboni in regards to the menu of specialty sandwiches, you can see the kitchen from teh store which is comforting if you like a clean kitchen

  3. @Sensei Magnum — they had their cabaret license suspended last year because Cindy and The Bear took their act out on the street and were caught in the act by the authorites. It’s been renewed as of June 1st.

  4. It is a reasonable action: their most recent act was to shoot various fruit out of their orifices,to be caught in the other’s mouth (on a fly!). This is not a sustainable biz model

  5. I tried Don Juan’s last week-end and I got to say thet ir was one of the best Mexican means I had in a very long time.

  6. I tried Don Juan’s last week-end and I got to say that it was one of the best Mexican meals I had in a very long time.

  7. We also tried Don Juan’s last week, and we really enjoyed ourselves.
The chips and salsa were really fresh, crispy, and delicious. My husband and I both ordered the steak fajitas and it was amazing, the steak pieces are large and juicy. Kudos to the kitchen for actually cooking the steak fajitas medium rare as we requested. We had enough meat for 2 tortillas for each of us. The rice and re-fried beans were really good and fajitas come with guacamole, sour cream and pico de gallo. The fajitas were much better than in most of the other places that I’ve tried. . Give them a try, you won’t be sorry

  8. When this placed first opened up, I was little hesitant to try it, but we awere really glad that we did.
This place IS AUTHENTIC. Mexican. I will Defiantly come eat here again. the salsa’s are nice and thick. non of that watery nonsense. Awesome real Mexican food! No the Tex-mex crap we usually get in some of the Mexican restaurants.
This was the best, most delicious, tacos you will ever get your hands on. Prepare to take your taste buds to a wild roller coaster ride. These tacos are as authentic and 100% Mexican as you can get in New York.

  9. My husband and have been going to the other to Don Juan’s just about once a week and have been doing this for the past 3 years. The food is always fresh and awesome, and the margaritas are absolutely delicious. The staff is friendly and attentive. (Lalo is our favorite waiter.) We like to go during the week when it isn’t so busy. They have great prices, impeccably clean, good food, friendly service. The staff knows us there and always greets us with warm smiles.
The chips here are absolutely delicious – their salsa is some of the best I’ve had at any Mexican restaurant anywhere.
The nachos supreme is our favorite app and we recommend the tacos al carbon as an entree.
The food is always good and with just the right amount of spices b/c it is more Authentic Mexican food then you’d find in the typical American Tex-Mex places or in the common restaurants. We will definitely be going to the new Long Beach branch
And by the way, their flan is the best flan that I have ever had. You have to try it.

  10. Come on.. New Yorkers never solely say good things about a restaurant. Always something to complain about… and no one is going to say how everything is the best you’ve ever had. And Jason S has a husband? Hope your food is better than your deceptions.

  11. Went to Gentle Brew Yesterday, and had the Best FrappeLatte ever. I was offered different flavorings, but Their Fresh, and On-Site Roasted Beans are more flavorful than Heaven. Try Anything in there and you Will Not be Disappointed.
