City of Long Beach Storm Preparedness Update

Long Beach City officials are closely monitoring the upcoming storm. We are coordinating with the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management, the Long Island Power Authority, and others. The City’s preparations are well under way – a series of preparedness and response meetings has been initiated.

There are preparations our residents can undertake. Please clear out gutters, drains, and yards of leaves. Sand bags are available for pick up at City Hall. All weekend long sand bags will be available at the police department. Also, be sure to secure your windows, bring in or tie down outdoor furnishings and decorations, and unplug appliances in low-lying areas.

As the storm approaches, the City will notify residents via Swift911 Notification (sign up is available on the front page of and post regular updates on the City’s website, storm hotline (431-1000 ext. 1) and Facebook & Twitter accounts.

Please be advised, City equipment will be staged at the LIRR parking area to ensure rapid storm response. Public parking will be prohibited.

You can also follow @LIPAnews on Twitter and report outages at Nassau & Suffolk will be opening their offices of Emergency Management as a precaution, and LIPA will be opening its Communication Command Center.
