Here is what is happening this week in Long Beach [From The Recreation Center]

The Rec has been gearing up for a busy summer.  This past weekend we had a very successful 10 mile race and thousands came out in support of the Memorial Day Parade.  I write today to ask that you forward this e-mail on to those on your mailng list. Below you will find a list of what is happening in Long Beach.  I’m sure you will find an activity to enjoy and of course while out, I encourage everyone to shop Long Beach!

If you get a chance, please stop by the Rec on Saturday evening between 5 p.m. and midnight to participate in the Relay for Life where cancer survivors are honored, lost loved ones are remembered, and funds are raised to fight cancer.

The event starts with an opening ceremony followed by survivors’ walk to celebrate their victory over cancer. There will be a caregiver lap for those who have cared for cancer patients, and then all participants are invited to walk together in the opening lap. A luminaria ceremony will be held to honor those no longer with us and those currently fighting cancer.  Individual walking is observed throughout the night and there will be games and activities for all.  In addition, the three gaga pits will be out and newly refurbished roller rink is open for play! Finally, a lap is held where participants pledge to take action and spread awareness of cancer research, treatments, and prevention.  Please come down and join us on Saturday, June 1st, 5 p.m. until midnight – at the Rec!
