Long Beach Recreation News [Thursday to Next Week]

Dear Friends,
As the weather starts to cool it is time to think about Fall activities, but first, there are still some great concerts and events happening.

Beach Tennis USA’s 2013 Tour will host the best players from all over the globe right here on Edwards Blvd beach August 15 -18. The players will compete for $10,000 in prize money at the 2013 ITF Grade 1 Long Beach New York Open. Amateurs and novices are welcome to try the sport as well. For full event details and a schedule please go to www.beachtennisusa.net

Those looking for a water sport are invited to join us at the Lifeguard One-Mile Memorial Swim on Sunday, August 18th. In addition, The Long Beach International Film Festival will hold their Beach Shorts on the Beach on Thursday, August 22and The Historical Society’s Annual Arts & Crafts Fair will be held on the Boardwalk on August 24 & 25.

We will end the final week of the beach season with five wonderful concerts.  Be sure to catch some great bands over the next two weeks because before you know it, Fall will have arrived and the 2013 summer season will be a memory.

  1. According to the city website the pool is expected to reopen “around Labor Day.” I seriously hope they consider having adult only sessions at last one evening a week. I have to drive all the way to Hofstra to avoid being bombarded by screaming teenagers when I’m training. The day adult only swims don’t work because of my pesky job.
