Long Beach Recreation [Wednesday 28th to next week]

park&recDear Friends,

This may be the last week of the summer beach season but things are hotter than ever! Check out this week’s offerings …

Due to the Boardwalk construction east and west, and the availability of seating both on the beach and the boardwalk, all of this week’s beach concerts will be held on Riverside Boulevard.  In addition, we have some make ups so we will have concerts every night thru Friday on Riverside at 8pm.  On Saturday night the action moves to Kennedy Plaza for a Family Square Dance Party, and on Sundaythere will be a 6pm Concert in Kennedy Plaza by Esteban Castro.  For runners, we invite you to take part in the 24th  Annual  Robert C. McAvoy 5 mile Run on Labor Day morning, Monday September 2, 2013 at 8 a.m. Please note that this year’s race will start and finish on the boardwalk at Laurelton Boulevard.  You can sign up online by visiting www.longbeachny.gov/rec .

Finally, it is time to start thinking of Fall activities.  Your Recreation Department is pleased to offer the following activities for kids: Flag Football (new), Running Club, Soccer, House League Ice Hockey, Ice Skating lessons, Earth Arts, Tae Kwon Do, Crossfit King of the Beach, Swim Lessons and Swim Team.

Swim lesson and Swim team will take place at the Rec Center Swimming Pool this Fall (The finishing touches are going on in the new locker rooms and showers and the new pool liner is being installed this week. We hope to start putting water in the pool by the end of the week!)

For adults, we have Fitness Classes for those looking for instruction on how to use our new cardio and weight room; KWickFit Bootcamp for those looking for a challenge; Root to Rise Yoga for all levels; Women’s Kickball; Women’s Soccer, and more!

Visit us at www.longbeachny.gov/rec and click on the Fall programs Tab in the upper right hand corner to see all of our offerings. We hope to see you down at the Rec this Fall!

(A special request: If anyone has an 11 year old interested in playing tackle football with the Bulldogs this Fall, they are in need of a few players.  Please email me and I will put you in touch with the proper person)
