This past year has been a challenging one for so many in Long Beach. The Rec Center, although affected by Superstorm Sandy, is bouncing back and remains dedicated to providing the best possible programs and events for our residents and visitors. Our staff has been busy preparing for the Fall Season and the finishing touches are being put on the newly renovated pool, locker rooms, and steam rooms, which will open shortly.
The Ice Arena, with its recently refurbished lobby featuring its new snack bar, Café by the Bay, has daily public skating sessions and a variety of other program offerings. All the Fall programs are listed below with something for everyone. This season also welcomes the addition of two new programs: Swim Club and Co-ed Flag Football. Be sure to check them out!
In addition to our programs and activities, the Recreation Center campus includes a synthetic surface ball field, skateboard park, roller rink, dog run, fitness trail, children’s playground, fishing pier, and boat launch.

Unless otherwise noted all applications can be downloaded at longbeachny.gov/rec by clicking on the DOWNLOAD APPLICATIONS button or picked up at the Recreation Center lobby.
Swim Lessons (Registration opens Tuesday 9/17 to LBCSD Residents and Thursday, 9/19 to non-residents. The application will be posted at longbeachny.gov on Monday 9/16 and will contain the dates, times, and instructors of the classes. Offerings include Preschool, Pre Kindergarten, and American Red Cross Level 1 through 6 (begins Sept. 30).
Swim Club *new*
This new program is designed for those children who can swim and want to excel at it but are not interested in competing in swim meets. It will teach freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke, and butterfly as well as proper starts and turns and will run in 10 week cycles. Children 10 & under will meet Mondays & Wednesdays and children ages 11 thru 17 will meet on Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays. Class meets 5pm to 6pm (begins Sept. 30).
Tigersharks Swim Team
A competitive swim team coached by Long Beach Recreation Department Staff. Swimmers are expected to participate in practices during the week and on weekends as well as attend meets, which are held on weekends. For further information, please visit golba.org
Fall Soccer League
5 Intramural Divisions Boys 2nd & 3rd , Girls 2nd & 3rd, Boys 4th & 5th, Girls 4th & 5th, Co-ed 6th & 7th. Games played at Recreation Fields on Wednesday evenings and Saturdays. All soccer programs will play short field except for the Co-ed 6th & 7th grade division (begins Sept 21). Volunteer coaches needed. Email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Soccer for Kindergarteners and 1st Graders
Meets on Saturday mornings from 9am to 10am at Recreation Fields (Sept 21st thru Nov 2)
Co-Ed Flag Football (New Program!)
Pre-K & K (Mondays 4pm to 5pm from Sept 23 to Nov 11). Players in 1st thru 3rd Grade, 4th thru 6th grade, 7th thru 9th grade, 10th thru 12th grade will practice and have 6 games. Program meets at Recreation Fields in the following time ranges: Mondays between 5pm and 7pm, Wednesdays between 4pm and 6pm, and Sundays between 1:30pm and 5:30pm. Fall Running Club
Boys and girls ages 7 through 15 meet Sundays at Riverside Blvd on the Boardwalk from noon to 1pm (Sept 15th thru Nov 3rd). Club includes entry into Turkey Trot Youth Race on Sunday, November 24th.
Cross Fit King of the Beach
Must sign up at the Rec, classes limited in size. Boys and girls 1st thru 4th meet Wednesdays from 4pm to 5pm for 8 weeks. Boys and girls 5th thru 8th meet Thursdays from 4pm to 5pm. (begins Sept 18)
Fall House League Ice Hockey at the Ice Arena
Ages 5 thru 10 (birth years 2003 thru 2008) from 5:40 pm to 6:40 pm on Mondays and 7 am to 7:50 am on Sundays. Ages 11 thru 14 (birth years 1999-2002) meets Mondays 6:50 to 7:50pm and Sundays 8 am to 8:50 am. (begins Monday 9/16). Sign up at the Ice Arena.
Learn to Ice Skate
Ages 4 and up meet once a week on Mondays or Fridays from 4:15 pm to 4:45 pm or Saturdays from 12:45 pm to 1:15 pm, or Sundays from noon to 12:30 pm or 2:45 pm to 3:15 pm. Program begins Sept 20. Sign up at Ice Arena.
R. K. Gould Tae Kwon Do

Music Together Classes
A delightful, joyous approach to music-making with your child. For children newborn through Kindergarten, and the adults who love them, this exceptional program offers families an opportunity to sing, dance and play rhythm instruments together in a relaxed, playful, non-performance-oriented setting. Offered in partnership with the Recreation Department and held upstairs at the Ice Arena on. Classes held Tuesdays or Fridays at 10 or 11am beginning September 17. KWick Fit Bootcamp with Katy Wick Meets: Saturdays & Sundays or Wednesdays at 7:45pm or both! (begins Sept 7th) Kwick Fit bootcamp is a small group fitness class that welcomes people of all fitness levels. Within each one hour-long class, you will be challenged with a pre-made workout that is guaranteed to scorch calories and tone muscles. Kwick Fit bootcamp provides community members an exercise option that takes the stress out of planning a workout along with the opportunity to be surrounded by others who share an interest in an active and healthy lifestyle. Those enrolled in KWick Fit Bootcamp enjoy full membership privileges at the Rec!
