The Community Reconstruction Program (CRP) has been designed by New York State to help communities impacted by Sandy rebuild their critical infrastructure in ways that increase resiliency and enhance economic development.
CRP is a resident-driven process whose goal is to make Long Beach more resilient to future storms while simultaneously increasing economic development opportunities and protecting the city’s most vulnerable areas. Over the next six (6) months, the CRP committee will work with residents, the state, city and a team of expert consultants to develop a plan to this end.
Once approved, the state will use the plan as a guide for disbursement of federal Sandy-related dollars in our community. Based on population size and damage sustained during the storm, Long Beach is eligible for the maximum $25 million available to communities under the program. The $25 million has been described by the Governor as ‘seed money’ for use on critical projects that can be undertaken over the next two years. The state will work with the committee to identify and secure additional funding for components of the plan not covered by the initial $25 million investment.
Please note, this program is designed to improve the resiliency of the city as a whole, and is separate from programs designed to assist individual homeowners and businesses. For more information on those programs, please visit –http://stormrecovery.ny.gov/
