The Rec is back in full swing for your benefit and enjoyment. If you haven’t been back to the Pool or Fitness center, please consider this your personal invitation to visit. The Ice Arena is open daily and offers learn to skate, learn to play hockey, house league hockey, public ice skating sessions and more.  Watch High School, Youth and Junior Hockey games and enjoy our affordable snack bar which is open 7 days a week.. We are pleased to announce that in addition to our existing partnerships with Earth Arts, CrossFit, and RK Gould Tae Kwon Do, we have added Master Park Tae Kwon Do, Mermaid Art Studio and Skudin Surf to our lineup and all have program offerings this January! Looking for an affordable birthday party alternative?  Consider an Ice Skating, Pool, or Gaga Birthday party! Gifts for all children in attendance. Also, kids in middle and high school won’t want to miss our Teen Night at the Ice Arena in conjunction with the Long Beach International Film Festival on Friday December 20. There will be dinner, music, ice skating, and a chance to win a brand new Apple iPad.  The person who makes the best Instagram video about a good deed they did, judged most “liked” by his or her peers takes home the iPad!Below is a list of our Winter Programs.

Basketball – Kindergarten and First Grade Clinic
This 8 week clinic takes place on Saturdays beginning January 11 and uses an instructional format that introduces the sport to kindergarten and 1st grade boys and girls. Some aspects of regulation basketball are scaled down – basket heights, and ball size – to tailor the game for this age group. Boys meet at noon and girls meet at 1pm at the Long Beach Middle School.
Games are played Monday through Friday Evenings and Saturday afternoons at the Lindell School Gymnasium. Some Saturday games will be played at the Long Beach Middle School. Pee Wee games will be played on Saturdays and occasionally Wednesday evenings. Junior Girls will play on Monday andTuesday nights, Junior Boys will play on Thursday and Friday nights, and Intermediate games will be played on Wednesday nights and Saturday afternoons. Participants will be notified of their teams by Jan 8with games and practices begin shortly thereafter.
Cross Fit King of the Beach
Must sign up at the Rec, classes limited in size. Boys and girls 1st and 2nd meet Tuesdays from 4pm to 5pm for 8 weeks. Boys and girls 3rd and 4th meet Wednesdays from 4pm to 5pm. Boys and girls 5th thru 8th meet Thursdays from 4pm-5pm. Classes began the week of December 3 and run thru week of February 6. 
Earth Arts
162 West Park Avenue, must sign up at Rec, classes limited in size, first come, first served. K thru 3rd Tuesdays or Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30 and 4th thru 8th from 5:30 to 6:30 (begins Jan 13) .
Class sizes are limited so sign up today. The smash hit game from our summer camp programs is now a winter activity and is being offered to interested participants ages Pre-K thru 6th grade! All games will be played on Sundays upstairs in the Long Beach Ice Arena from   Jan 26 – March 23. Pre-K & K boys and girls meet from 9am-10am, 1st & 2nd boys meet from 10am-11am, 1st & 2nd girls meet from 11am-noon, 3rd & 4th boys meet from noon-1pm, 3rd and 4th girls meet from 1pm-2pm, and 5th and 6th boys will meet from 2pm-3pm. All participants may swim for free after GAGA!
Ice Hockey (House League) at the Ice Arena
Ages 5 thru 10 (birth years 2003 thru 2008) from 5:40 pm to 6:40 pm on Mondays and 7 am to 7:50 amon Sundays. Ages 11 thru 14 (birth years 1999-2002) meets Mondays 6:50 to 7:50pm and Sundays 8 am to 8:50 am. Sign up at Ice Arena.  Next program runs from January 13 thru April 7.
Learn to Ice Skate
Ages 3 to 4 meet once a week on Fridays from 11am-11:30 am. This 5-week program begins Friday Jan 10. Sign up at Ice Arena. All other learn to skate classes meet Friday 4:15-4:45pm, Saturday 12:45 -1:15pm, Sunday noon -12:30pm or 2:45pm-4:15pm or Monday 4:15-4:45pm
Learn to Skate Tots
A skating program for tots aged 3 and 4.  Meets at Ice Arena on Fridays from 11:00am to 11:30am starting January 10.  Child needs to be able to stand up on their skates off the ice.
Learn to Play Hockey
Designed for skaters who have never played hockey. Child must be able to skate forward and backward unaided, turn and stop.  Meets Sundays for 5 weeks beginning January 12th.
Mermaid Art Studio
Class size is limited, first come, first served. Grades 3rd thru 8th. Sign up at the Rec. Four 8-week classes to choose from meeting Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:15pm-5:15pm and 5:30pm-6:30pm (begins Jan 13)

Swim Club
This new program is designed for those children who can swim and want to excel at it but are not interested in competing in swim meets.  It teaches freestyle, backstroke, breast stroke, and butterfly as well as proper starts and turns and runs in 10 week cycles.  Children 10 & under meet Tuesdays & Thursdays and children ages 11 thru 17 meet Mondays, Wednesdays & Frid ays. Class meets 5pm to 6pm (beginsJan. 6). 
Swim Lessons
Offerings include Preschool, Pre Kindergarten, and American Red Cross Level 1 through 6 (classes beginsJan 6)
Tae Kwon Do  with Master Park
217 East Park Ave, must sign up at The Rec, classes limited in size, first come, first served. Fridays  K thru 3rd  from 4:00pm to 4:45pm,  4th thru 6th from  5:30pm to 6:15pm (begins Jan 17)
Tae Kwon Do  with RK Gould

Tigersharks Swim Team
A competitive swim team coached by Long Beach Recreation Department Staff.  Swimmers are expected to participate in practices during the week and on weekends as well as attend meets, which are held on weekends.  For further information, please visit www.golba.org
Children ages K thru 7th Grade are welcome to participate in our wrestling program Monday andWednesday evenings at the Long Beach Middle School. Program began Dec 9, but sign up is still available.  K & 1st practice from 5:45pm-7pm, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th from 6:45pm-8pm, and 5th, 6th, and 7th from 7:45pm-9pm.
Yoga for Toddlers
This Parent and Child class welcomes toddlers ranging from strong walkers to age 3 and aims to introduce yoga to young ones. The class meets upstairs in the Ice Arena on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 am to 10:30am. Current class finishes December 18, next class starts up January 8. Those who sign up for January, may attend December 18 class!
Adult Swim Lessons . Meets Tuesdays from 8:15pm to 9:15pm. (begins Jan 7th)
Adult Fitness Class meets for 8 weeks on Wednesdays from 10am-11am beginning January 8th. An excellent way for seniors (and others) to learn how to use our fitness center.
Arthritis Foundation Aquatic Program with Gene meets Mondays from 10am to 11am, Wednesday from 11am to noon, and Friday from 9:30am to 10:30am.  Physician approval required. (begins Jan 6)
KWick Fit Bootcamp with Katy Wick. Meets: Upstairs at the Ice Arena on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7pm to 8pm. (begins New Years Day – Jan 1) Kwick Fit bootcamp is a small group fitness class that welcomes people of all fitness levels. Within each one hour-long class, you will be challenged with a pre-made workout that is guaranteed to scorch calories and tone muscles. Kwick Fit bootcamp provides community members an exercise option that takes the stress out of planning a workout along with the opportunity to be surrounded by others who share an interest in an active and healthy lifestyle.  Those enrolled in KWick Fit Bootcamp enjoy full membership privileges at the Rec! SPECIAL – FREE TO ALL UGLY SWEATER HOLIDAY CLASS THURSDAY DECEMBER 19 AT 7pm.
New! SKUDIN SURF Ocean Skills and Safety Clinic
Offered in cooperation with SKUDIN SURF, this program is for anyone who wants to learn to paddle a surfboard, stand up paddle, learn a proper stance, how to steer, etc.  This class will also help you develop your ocean swimming technique, and will teach you some neat underwater games as only the Skudins can present them!  Only at The Rec, Only in Long Beach! Meets Sunday nights.  6pm class for those 14 and under, 7pm class for 15 and older including “kids of any age!”
Swimnastics with Cathy meets Mon, Tues, Thurs from 1pm to 2pm and Fridays from 10:30am to 11:30am. (begins Jan 6)
Yoga for Adults 
with Stephanie Durso, meets in the Ranger Room on Sunday mornings at 8:45am (begins Nov 10).
