Long Beach Recreation Update

Dear Friends,

As we begin to thaw out there are many exciting programs coming to the Rec this spring that we want you to share with you. We are now accepting applications for our Pre-K Indoor Soccer program and for our Kindergarten through the fifth grade Indoor Soccer program. The program will meet on Wednesday evenings at the Long Beach Middle School and trained recreation personnel will be on hand to teach the basic fundamentals of soccer in a safe, fun, and friendly learning environment.

The Recreation Department will be offering a great lineup of adult programs this spring and we hope you consider taking advantage of one of the many programs. Men’s and Women’s softball will begin the second week in May. Get your team together for this very popular league. To warm up for the softball season we will host the Annual Ed Smith Men’s Softball Tournament the weekend of April 25th, 26th & 27th and we will also host the Inaugural Dottie Barriscale Women’s Softball Tournament the following weekend May 2nd , 3rd, & 4th. Other adult spring programs include Adult Yoga, Arthritis Exercise, Swimnastics, Adult Fitness, Volleyball, Women’s Kickball, and our very popular Kwick Fit Program that will get anyone into shape for the summer season. Adult program applications will be out in March.

Our youth programming is extensive as well and we will be offering more spring programs than ever before. We will be offering an outdoor Soccer Program which will be very similar to our Fall program with practices and games every week on our Recreation ball fields. Also, right here at the Recreation Center we will also be offering Yoga for Kids, Lacrosse for grades Kindergarten through fourth grade, and a Running Club. Once again, we are in contact with outside organizations to provide affordable opportunities in the areas of Tae Kwon Do along with educational art classes. Look for these applications in the coming weeks.

The Long Beach Ice Arena is busy in the spring as well. We will have our traditional House League as well as other programs such as Learn to Skate, Learn to play Hockey, and Tots Learn to Skate. Furthermore The Long Beach Ice Arena is now accepting birthday party requests to Ice Skate, use the swimming pool, or to have your own personal Gaga party. Our snack bar can provide quality food at an affordable rate, so please consider us when planning your next party. Visitwww.longbeachny.gov/icearena for more info.
