Site News: Never mind

I was going to update the comment system, but it brought more trouble than good. Will try other stuff. In the meantime, it’s back to the same old one.

I’m testing the comment system with a  LIVEFYRE. I’m not sure if I’m going to love it or hate it. LIVEFYRE will allow more interactive comments’ it will allow you to UPVOTE comments you like as well as add photos. I’ll post all updates below:

4:03pm: LIVEFYRE seems ok. The font is small. You can edit your comments if you are logged in. You can view comment threads by NEW or OLD, etc. Plus LIKE comments and add photos. I’ll keep it here for now and tweak it as we go along.

3:16pm: now I am trying  LIVEFYRE.

3:04pm: the blog really slowed down with DISCUS. I might re-enable it, but for now it’s back to the old commenting system.

2:47pm: It looks like the comment sync could take a long time. I’ll let you know when it’s done. You can still comment now if you want using the DISQUS system.  Comment rules might change… I am still trying to figure this all out.

2:19pm: I am actually syncing all current comments into the new system, so it’s going to take a while until the input is complete. Several posts will look like they have zero comments until it’s complete.

2:17pm: I am playing around with a new comment system called DISQUS, so I apologize if you are having trouble posting a new comment.

Please read the terms of service before you comment.

  1. Anthony, a horrible system.  Can’t post with paragraphs makes reading comments difficult.  My user name is already taken, so I can’t do that.  This is the nonsense that brought Patch down.

    We’re out of here.

  2. Thanks, Anthony, for being willing to admit a mis-step. The problems like “no paragraphs” would have discouraged me, too if I’d tried to post. As mentioned above, this switch made this blog look a little like the dreaded P*tch of old.The great difference here is that your blog is run by one sensible, responsible human, not a bunch of corporate yes-men. If only our local governments could learn something from that. @Eddie, as in past days of “fake Eddies,” we’d recognize your coherent views and excellent writing style even “by any other name.”

    Long live Paragraph Breaks!

  3. ha, thanks. I was hoping I to be able to play around with the posting parameters, but livefyre doesn’t allow it. I did like the idea where you can view the newest comments on the top of a thread, plus give the option for you folks to post photos and edit your comments. the other service DISCUS was no better, plus very slow. I’ll find something that works, eventually.
