From Long Beach:
“The City will be hosting a public engagement session regarding development of our new Skate Park on Thursday, March 5 at 7PM on the 2nd floor of the Long Beach Public Library. All residents are welcome to attend and participate. [LINK]
I, for one, am excited about this skatepark and I don’t care how unpopular that opinion is. I’m tired when people complain about one topic by dragging in something that’s completely unrelated: e.g., Why do we have a new boardwalk when our hospital is still closed. UGHHHHH
I don’t want to turn this into a hospital vs. Skatepark issue and it might come across that it is, but my point is this: don’t politicize the skatepark. It has nothing to do with other issues, such as the privately owned Long Beach Medical Center.
One thing that attracted me to Long Beach is our parks: our amazing beach, the best boardwalk in NY, awesome multiple playgrounds and now we are getting a state of the art skatepark because the old one sucks and smells like poop.
I wish some of you adults would put yourselves in the shoes of the kids (and adults) who are looking for something such as this park, as place to hang out, get exercise and have fun. Gone are the days when LB had a bowling alley, multiple movie theaters, soda shops, amusement rides, etc. Kids (and adults) today need to do things besides playing The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask* on their brand new Nintendo 3DS XL. Don’t you know that obesity is up and so is type 2 diabetes in children? Instead of waiting to get these diseases so you can go to the hospital, how about trying to prevent it in the first place? Eat healthier, get exercise and fresh air. Build more parks!! WE NEED MORE PARKS! THEN MORE PARKS ON TOP OF THOSE AND MORE AND MORE AND MORE.
Our great parks are what separates us from every other community on Long Island and even NYC. If Long Beach didn’t have them, I would not want to live here.
*Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is the best Zelda game ever made.
