Hotel Jackson, where the Avalon sits today

Here are a couple of photos from the area where the Avalon sits today along with its garage. It was formerly called the Hotel Jackson as was the boulevard that is today Edwards Blvd.  The boulevard was renamed after the assassination of Mayor Edwards in 1939. – Doug

  1. Jay, you forgot the Promenade and The Atlantic. The Atlantic run by Ben Tannenbaum, who cared only about making a buck and not the poor souls inhabiting his run down hovel.

As for “visionary political leadership”, you have got to be kidding me. Keeping in mind that there has always been an incestuous relationship between the political parties, the chamber of commerce and the hospital board. I can not for the life of me use the term “visionary leadership” of any form in our fair city.

Name ONE person that you would label a visionary and what his/her accomplishment was.

In the 70’s and 80’s we had the same crooks, enablers and hangers on as we do now , just different names.

Irving Rosentahl, Larry Elovich, Ed Eaton, John Scutto, (yes the republicans were complicate also) , Richie MacMurray, Jerry Kramer, Harvey Weisenberg, Al D’amato,The Water Ladies.

How did your imaginary visionary leadership save the hospital from ruin.

I bet it will be a heck of a lot easier for you to add to my list than naming one visionary.

Go ahead give it a try. I dare you .LOL
