If approved, will this tax-abatement be precedent for all our Oceanfront Property? [OPINION]

Are you a multi-million dollar developer? Want to build giant buildings on oceanfront property that is walking distance from the LIRR? GOOD NEWS! If iStar gets IDA’s approval, YOU TOO CAN SCREW THE TAX PAYING RESIDENTS OF LONG BEACH! Just have the ME TOO mentality and say, “ISTAR GOT IT, WHAT ABOUT US?”

The Superblock. Placed in the center of town, it has beautiful views of the ocean, beach and boardwalk. This type of property is completely rare. That is why we can’t set a precedent on giving tax breaks to the best property on Long Island. If this gets approved, what comes next? Politics is what kept that property undeveloped, not spreadsheet forecasts.
