Thirty years ago, lightning struck that clock tower and the clock hasn’t run since. We at the Hill Valley Preservation Society think it should be preserved exactly the way it is as part of our history and heritage…..
oh… wait.. that’s from the 1980’s movie Back to the Future, and that’s the second time (no pun intended) I did that joke on this blog.
Anyway, maybe keen observers might of noticed that the clock at the Long Beach Rd / Park Avenue intersection has been missing for some time now. That’s because it was a victim in a car accident that happened last November (Read – Auto Accident Knocks Down Clock on Park ave & LB blvd.)
Well, glad to see it back. And it’s about time! Again, no pun intended.
A reader named Jan sent this in:
Does anyone have pictures of the accident on Long Beach Rd. & Park on Wednesday that knocked down the clock tower? I’m surprised I haven’t heard anything else about it. Was I dreaming?
It was raining that night and it must have happened right around 7:45pm because when the train pulled in it seemed like every police car and fire truck were rushing to that location. There was a white mini van up on the median and the head of the clock was on its side on the ground. I wish I would have jumped out and took pictures myself but there was a lot of commotion.
The funny thing about all this was I was at that exact spot when I got this email. Little did I know the clock was gone. Jan is right, nobody is talking about this. Below are two photos: One with the clock, one without.
