STOP THE PRESSES! Comprehensive resiliency plan coming to fruition?

I love this blog. Sometimes I hate it, but I generally love it (sometimes). One reason why I love it is for the aftermath some of my articles produce. I am referring to my latest regarding bay development: TAX BREAKS ARE FOR THE WRONG AREA. [OPINION]

I generally try to keep up with the City Council meetings, but haven’t touched the one from last night yet. I was just told about this item, plus a few more juicy details I won’t post yet. Remember the Comprehensive resiliency plan? Here is what happened last night:

WHEREAS, the Comprehensive Plan update will include all traditional aspects of a plan as well as non-traditional aspects such as climate adaptation, resiliency, social health and well-being, community art, heritage, culture, hazard mitigation and a regional Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) Analysis, while incorporating the recent planning efforts undertaken by the City and the New York Rising Community Reconstruction Plan (CRP) recommendations; and

WHEREAS, the Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan update will have a focus on the revitalization of the City’s bay front considering the community’s needs outlined in the 2009 BOA Pre-Nomination Study as well as updating the economic assessment of the bay front area to identify the most appropriate land uses and associated costs and benefits; and

Part of the Comprehensive Plan/LWRP is this Oceanfront Conceptual Cultural Park idea for the Foundation Block (between Edwards, Broadway & Riverside). What do you all think?

Looking at this image, I didn’t realize residential units were part of the idea. I love the open space and potential of having it used for events. I know many of you won’t complain about the multi-level parking garage.

I realize so many of you see this all as a pipe dream, but like the NY Lottery: hey, you never know. You can’t have walkable oceanfront property a stone throw away from NYC sitting vacant forever. parking
