fallfestlogo3_WebAs the summer season comes to an end, and the leaves begin to fall from the trees, the City of Long Beach is busy making preparations for its 17th Annual Fall Festival. The two day, outdoor festival will take place on Saturday, October 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, October 13 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in Kennedy Plaza located at National Boulevard and West Park Avenue.

All are invited to attend this family friendly, Long Beach tradition and to stroll through Kennedy Plaza taking in the sights, sounds and smells of autumn. The event offers something for everyone!

The weekend’s centerpiece is the pumpkin patch filled with thousands of pumpkins waiting to be picked! Puppet shows, a petting zoo, *pony rides, the Haunted House, carousel, hay wagon and fire engine rides are just some of the fun-filled kids activities returning this year. New attractions include a pumpkin bounce house, giant slide and a Ferris wheel. The children’s activity tent, sponsored by the Girl Scouts, will also return featuring fall related craft projects.

There is plenty for adults too… Vendors will once again line the plaza. Those guests over 21 are invited to visit the Wine& Food Tent for wine tastings presented by Beach Liquors. Modestly priced samplings from local restaurants including the Beach House, Minnesota’s, Sugo, The Atlantica, Himawari and Paninis & Bikinis will take place in the Food & Wine Tent. An array of food vendors will also be on hand offering international fare along the plaza.
Live music featuring the Long Island Harmonizers Chorus, Tommy Sullivan, Six Gun Country and Vintage Bliss will take place at National Boulevard on the bandwagon.

At Noon on Saturday, children in costumes will parade from the Recreation Center to Kennedy Plaza. Awards for best costumes and other categories will be given and each child in costume will receive special treats.

Admission to the festival is free to the public. The event will be held rain or shine. Each attraction costs $2 (except Pony Rides which are $5 per ride). Non transferable, pay one price (P.O.P.) wristbands, providing access to all attractions (except the Pony Ride) are available as follows:

Saturday only ($15.00),
Sunday only ($15.00),
Saturday & Sunday ($25.00)
Cash, Visa and MasterCard are accepted.

Fall Festival this Saturday & Sunday @ Kennedy Plaza (Note: Bring Cash)

My favorite part of the Fall Festival is the food tent where you can get an awesome sample of local eats for a decent (and not so decent) price.

Here is a little ‘fall festival’ gossip.  One resident informed me that City Workers are paid for what has been traditionally considered a volunteer event, and not just paid, but paid overtime.  This, leads to all sorts of fees that would normally be absorbed by the city.

Yep, fees. You can see all of them on the schedule below or download the PDF from the official City of Long Beach website. I’ll highlight some fees so you know how much money you need to bring:

Haunted House – $2
Fire Truck & Hay Rides – $1
Carousel, Slide, Petting Zoo – $1
Puppet Show is free, but maybe the city should erect a tent so they can charge admission.
