Fountain was flooding Kennedy Plaza Yesterday. My new fountain proposal.

The existing fountain is too big and it leaks. I guess visually, a large fountain makes a grand statement, but I think a small round fountain would be better. Like a meeting place where we can sit around, drink coffee and discuss philosophy. Perhaps with a statue of the mermaid, neptune and tower from our city seal? What a vague post. Whatever…. I like to dream. Here is a terrible photoshop. Can somebody please make this happen? sealfountain

Kennedy Plaza Farmers Market Returns to Long Beach; Grand Opening: May 3rd, 2013

farmers marketCity of Long Beach residents and visitors will welcome back the Farmers Market at Kennedy Plaza on Saturday, May 3rd, 2014 from 9am to 1pm.

For six years the popular market, which runs Wednesdays and Saturdays through November, has featured regional producers offering fresh products including vegetables, herbs, fruits, plants, baked goods, fish, shellfish, eggs, cheeses, pasta, pickles, fair trade coffee, gluten free products, handcrafted soaps, poultry, pork and much more. This year the market will introduce new producers offering yogurt, nut butters, organic herb and vegetable plants.

“We are very happy to be back in Long Beach,” said Market Manager and Program Director Bernadette Martin. “We have lots of new products to offer, and residents whose gardens were damaged by Hurricane Sandy will have a wide selection of plants, including flats and hanging baskets, for the spring planting season.”

Be sure to visit the Kennedy Plaza Farmers Market at 1 West Chester Street in Long Beach from May 3rd through November, Wednesdays 10am-4pm, Saturdays 9am-1pm

[Dear Santa, I want an] Outdoor Ice Skating in Kennedy Plaza with hot chocolate, coffee, music and more!

A supplement to my post from yesterday (read: City of Long Beach Winter Commercial is great, but we need more winter destinations in Long Beach).

I really think we need more activities in Long Beach during the winter. It’s great how our city is advertising Long Beach as a year round destination, but us residents know that the activities in the winter here are very minimal. We do have some really nice stores, restaurants and the new boardwalk is beautiful (especially with the lights), but it’s FREEEEEZING by the water. This is where Ice Skating in Kennedy Plaza comes in. Continue reading “[Dear Santa, I want an] Outdoor Ice Skating in Kennedy Plaza with hot chocolate, coffee, music and more!”

Farmers Market Opens TODAY! [Reminder]

Where: Kennedy Plaza, City Hall
What: Pickles, Organic Fruits & Vegetables, Body Care Products, Pickles,  Plants, Gentle Brew Coffee, Pickles, Eggs, Pickles and much more!

Guess what’s inside the Long Beach Time Capsule

At the foot of Kennedy Plaza lies a time capsule which was buried in 1997 commemorating the 75th anniversary of Long Beach as a city.

I can probably do a google search or ask around as to what is exactly in this time capsule, but I think it would be more fun if we guess the contents ourselves. Here are mine:

  • A slice of Gino’s pizza
  • Baby oil (because that’s what people used instead of sun tan lotion or sunscreen back then)
  • Hot air from a 1997 elected official
  • A parking space
What are your guesses? If you actually know what’s inside, please tell us!
