R.I.P, Con Astone. Many years ago when the blog started becoming it’s own, I made a point of saying how I always looked forward to watching Con on the beach. About a week after that post, He contacted me, thanked me for the blog and asked for my address. A few days later in the mail, I got his CD. I generally don’t like taking stuff for free, but this was the first offer I ever got for running the blog. It was such an act of kindness on his part, something I will never forget. He hasn’t performed on the beach in the past few years, but every year I always did scan the lineup hoping to see his name on there. It’s really sad to read about his passing, but I just wanted to say how much I appreciated the CD and the music he gave us all these years.
Just a side note, In our email exchange, Con told me his real name was Cono. I know he is from Greenpoint, Brooklyn and lived there the same time as my family who were in Williamsburg. I would love to know if Con’s family came from the Italian town Teggiano. Those who have family from that town knows where I am going with here… (Angelo Lomonte , are you reading this? )Read at the Herald: Con Astone, popular Italian singer, dies at 79
