A single family home for two families? I’m confused.

Westholme Civic Association is questioning the renderings for this structure that’s being built at 535 West Market Street: “When are two foundations not two separate structures? When they are connected at the roof line……”

11163232_398201150365291_8888717183076913843_nOh boy does that look ugly. Anyway, this lot in question was for:

Expanding Use for a sub-division into two building lots and the construction of 1 two (2) family dwelling and 1 one (1) family dwelling at 535 West Market Street, Long Beach, NY also known as Section 59, Block 21, Lots 60-62 on the Nassau
County Land and Tax Map.

It was denied, yet it looks like a ‘double house’ is allegedly being built anyway. I’m confused. Here is what the lot currently looks like:

UPDATE: I think I figured this house out. You’re supposed to cut it out and fold:

One of the significant side-effects of Sandy has been an enormous impact on our home and flood insurance rates and, for that matter, our ability to get insurance at all. We on the South Shore have gone from being desirable clients to being condemned as uninsurable by most of the traditional insurance companies. In addition, The National Flood Insurance program, The Biggert-Waters Act (2013), and The Homeowner’s Flood Insurance Affordability (2014), have made understanding and properly purchasing flood insurance nearly impossible. Compounding the problem are brokers and agents who are too confused, too busy, or too heartless to provide us with the information and education we need to make good decisions about what to do.

We need help. That is what our session is all about. We will provide you with the information and education that you need to create a strategy for getting proper coverage and the best rate available. Presentation will include…Insights and Strategies for your Flood and Homeowner’s Insurance

  1. The state of the Homeowner’s Insurance Market on Long Island and how you can navigate it.
  2. Changes in The National Flood Insurance program, the impact, and what you can do about it.
  3. What to expect from your Broker/Agent and why you deserve it.
  4. The future of our Insurance “Problem.”

The presentation will be as brief as possible to allow for your important questions. The presentation should be approximately an hour followed by a Q & A session.

Sewer Lateral Service Plan (Q&A Meeting on Sept 22nd)

From the Westholme Civic Association

A good number of our members have asked about the new Sewer Lateral Service Plan being offered to the residents of Long Beach and in all honesty we probably have as many questions as you do.

We have arranged to have a representative from the City of Long Beach as well as one from Brady Risk Management present to answer any questions you may have regarding this program.

The Meeting will be held on September 22 at 7:30PM in the VFW Hall on Park Ave.

While there will be an open Q&A session, we ask that you forward any questions you have to westholmecivic@gmail.com. Since most residents will have similar questions and concerns, allowing us to organize them beforehand will hopefully save time and get 90% of your questions answered and the remaining can be asked/answered in the open Q&A session.

Once again please send any questions you wish to be answered to Westholmecivic@gmail.com

Westholme Civic and “Be Red Cross Ready” (Thursday, June 5th at 7PM)

The Westholme Civic Association will holding their monthly meeting on Thursday, June 5th at 7PM in the VFW Hall (675 West Park Ave).  At this meeting we are fortunate to have the American Red Cross give their “Be Red Cross Ready” presentation.

While the Red Cross and their partners are committed to lending a helping hand to those in need, assistance may be delayed in times of disaster. That’s why it’s important for your family to Be Red Cross Ready by completing three easy steps:

    1. Get a Kit
    2. Make a Plan
    3. Be Informed

Since we feel this presentation is relevant and important we are inviting anyone reading this message to join us at our meeting and learn how to Be Red Cross Ready.
