I didn’t see too many drunks, druggies or troublemakers. Just looked like families, surfing fans and happy people enjoying a great day at the beach.
I took this photo around 10am. Not the biggest crowd in the world, but not bad for a qualifying around. Tons of people showed up right when the trails ended at around 11:30am.
Taking advantage of the media credentials, I decided to get a birds-eye view.

DAY 1 was a success. DAY 2 (Monday, Sept 5th) kicks off with the 7am opening ceremony & a possible start to the main event.
