What ONE movie would you and your family like to see on the beach this summer?

UPDATE x2:  Long Beach Movie Nights needs more Old Time Classic suggestions.

  • Kid movie / cartoon (Pixar, Disney, Toy Story, UP, wall-e, etc)
  • Teen / Family movie (Goonies, ET, etc)
  • Classic big budget movie (Jaws, etc)
  • Old Time Classics (Casablanca  Citizen Kane, etc.)
  • Musicals (sound of music, wizard of oz, etc)
  • Adult (rocky horror, etc)

UPDATE: I am being told that Star Wars will most likely never happen.

Long Beach Movie Nights is asking: What ONE movie would you and your family like to see on the beach this summer?

My personal favorites include: Jaws, Star Wars (original, non-se), Indiana Jones, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Back to the Future, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Godfather 1&2, Godzilla vs Mothra, Lord of the Rings Trilogy (extended versions), original Dawn of the Dead, Rushmore, Spinal Tap. Or how about a wacky movie like Kentucky Fried Movie, Midnight Madness or Troll 2? Am I the only person in Long Beach who loves TROLL 2?? What are your personal favs?

  1. Come On Anthony; Kentucky Fried Movie? Have you already forgotten the uproar over Rocky Horror? People would flip at Kentucky Fried Movie. I say lets do Rocky Horror again though it was a blast!!!!

  2. Love the movies where there is public participation . Rocky Horror! Let’s do the time warp agaIn!

Still love original Willy Wonka, Mary Poppins but definitely Jaws!

  3. Lost boys, point break, moonrise kingdom. I would say goonies but we had that 2 years ago. I think we shouldnt repeat movies on the beach yet… other than Jaws. Jaws should be the summer staple.

  4. Star Wars cannot be publicly shown due to Licensing Restrictions from Lucas Films

    As per their web site:
“While Lucas Films is thrilled with the continued interest in their films, we are currently unable to give permission for the Star Wars movies to be publicly screened”

  5. So bummed that Star Wars can’t be shown!!!! Raiders of the Lost Ark, Back To The Future, Lost Boys would all be awesome!! (Goonies as well but it was shown/ we went and it was so fun I’d go again)

  6. Some great suggestions! thinking about this, I am wondering if we need to break down into categories:

    1) Kid movie / cartoon (toy story, up, wall-e)
    2) Teen movie (goonies)
    3) classic big budget movie (jaws, etc)
    4) musical (sound of music, wizard of oz)
    5) adult (rocky horror, etc)

    what am I missing?

  7. re: kentucky fried movie… haha you are correct, but I believe Rocky Horror was an absolute success last summer. Kentucky Fried Movie has boobs though and people are so uptight about boobs.

  8. Anthony, One genre that did very well last summer with our showing of Casablanca was “Old Time Classics”, unfortunately we have not received many suggestion in that category. Perhaps some of your readers can suggest some for us.

    Thanks again!

  9. Any Hitchcock movie, The Graduate, Gone with the Wind, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, a campy Elvis beach movie, Mrs. Doubtfire, The Never-ending Story, any PeeWee Herman movie, The Silence of the Lambs, The Princess Bride.
