I was at Jones Beach on Sunday enjoying the ice flow in the channel. It helped that the weather was warmer, but you should all try to see this in person while you still can. It was awesome. This occurred at Parking Field 10.[LINK]
I’m hearing that the Westbuty/Fortunoff OTB Casino plan has been withdrawn due to the overwhelming amount of opposition. I guess democracy still exists after all. Well, now this unwanted casino could potential be closer to home. Jones Beach is now being mentioned as a potential site. What do you folks think?
This photoshop below describes pretty much what I think, except replace the Fortunuoff Building with the Jones Beach water tower.
I checked out the Holiday Lights Spectacular at Jones Beach last night. I’m really glad NY State decided to bring this back. It’s a fun activity and great for the kids! I’m just worried if it’s just this year because it’s election year and Cuomo was looking for some Long Island votes… Was this announced before the elections? (is it conspiracy thursday?).
There’s also a Holiday Village along the way with Santa, fire pits and hot chocolate. I took a bunch of photos, but definitely check it out in person by visiting Holiday Lights Spectacular 2014 for information and tickets.
Because it’s just a barrier island away, I consider the Jones Beach Theater as part of our Long Beach summer entertainment. This might be somewhat of a free advertisement for livenation.com, but who cares. Perhaps they will give me a percentage of ticket sales?
Tickets can be purchased @ livenation.com. All *just announced* shows go on sale Saturday, May 5 at 10am, and the box office at the venue will officially be open for the season.
Just a few notes as I scroll down this list: Iron Maiden will be touring with Alice Cooper. Will John Stamos be the Beach Boys drummer? Catch Def Leppard before they lose another band member. If Phish were spelled Fish, I would maybe listen to them. I would go to the Identity Festival, but I’m not sure if I belong there. Journey still cashing in on the “Don’t Stop Believin'” Sopranos finale. Who’s Kelly Clarkson?
The annual Jones Beach Air show flies in this Saturday & Sunday from 10am to 3pm for both days. Too bad we can’t see the show from Long Beach, but it’s not a far trip to Jones Beach. Parking will probably be tough so get there early, but we know all about parking problems here in Long Beach. We can handle it!
Check out the official website for more info: http://www.jonesbeachairshow.com/

Between Thanksgiving and St. Patrick’s Day you can see Seals over at the Jones Inlet. The best way to see them is over on the Jones Beach side and not the Point Lookout side. They normally don’t beach themselves unless there are rocks, so look for little heads bobbing in the water. The Seal in the photo above is a Harbor Seal. Bring binoculars and patience!
This past Sunday, My wife and I decided to visit a neighbor beach town – Point Lookout. We just walked along the beach to the Jones Inlet. We saw a bunch of birds such as Eider ducks, Harlequin ducks, Brant geese, & Long-tailed ducks. It’s nice to once in a while see what else is happening on this barrier island. I definitely suggest parking at the Point Lookout Town Park and walking east on the beach towards Point Lookout District Park. Here are a few pics that I took:
Well, sort of. Nike made sneakers inspired by Jones Beach. All of Long Island (Yes, Brooklyn & Queens too) is represented. These sneakers are extremely limited to only 516 (Nassau County area code) pairs. They only come in a sandy tan color with an ocean blue sole. They’re available today exclusively at Street Gear in Hempstead for $120 a pair.
